My New Years resolution, well one of them, is to start and finish a 365 project. Some of you may already know what this is, but if you don't, let me fill you in. It is a picture a day for an entire year. Yep, you just read that right, an entire year.
I won't bog down my blog or Facebook with pictures everyday, but you will be able to follow my adventures on my Instagram. Just look up my handle @littleanchorphoto to see my Little Anchor life starting January 1, 2015. I can almost guarantee this project will become the AG Chronicles by documenting a full year of my sons life, but I'm not mad about it.
And to start this project off right, here's my first photo! (I apologize for any messy house photos you may encounter.)
Family traditions. Cookie bakes, Christmas Bruch, Easter Dinner, Family Reunions. Everyone has them and you either hate them or you love them. But what is a tradition? Why are they so important? Traditions help give you a sense of belonging. They give you a sense of identity and memories to pass on from one generation to the next.
If you ask me, traditions are awesome!! Nothing makes me happier than seeing my loved ones truly enjoying themselves. This past weekend, a new family tradition was introduced to me and it was nothing short of delicious. Yes, I said delicious. Tasty, yummy in my tummy, delicious. I spent time with family, laughed, ate, laughed, cooked and laughed some more. What kind of tradition did I participate in? Tamale making of course! Did I mention it was so awesome? Here's to family, love and making memories.
Life's moments are meant to be cherished and for that reason alone you should consider lifestyle photographs. But what is lifestyle photography? It is exactly what it sounds like. It is photos taken at the very core of your life. It is the raw and unexpected events, documented for you to cherish. I know what you are thinking, "But Serena, what will you photograph and why on earth should I pay you for this?" Well that is simple, I will photograph whatever you want me to! Do you want to remember breakfast time in the mornings? Baking cookies with your little ones? Bath time? Dance parties in the living room? Playing tea or school? Or just simply snuggling on the couch?
I will be a fly on the wall and capture you and your family doing what you do best, being you! Nobody has to run and get a camera to document Sally playing tea or to catch Johnny jumping on his bed. I can do that while you join in the fun.
Now you are thinking, what exactly will these photos look like? Well let me show you some of such a beautiful family that let me into their home to capture the love they have for one another. Having them interact with each other was effortless and the love they expressed for one another was so heartfelt. All they really wanted was to snuggle with their baby boy and cherish the moments within his first year. I left this session feeling completely full of joy and happiness. I can honestly say that these photos are some of the most beautiful photos I have had the chance to take. I am thankful that they chose me to capture them.
With that said, live in the moment. Make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering, and let me capture the moments for you.
...because I have the best cousins! When my cousins asked me to take their Christmas/Family pictures I was beyond excited! They have never had a family photo done and I was completely honored they choose me to capture their moments. It doesn't hurt they they are all kinda cute too. Love you guys to the moon and absolutely loved shooting this with you!
I ventured out to a new location and I was not disappointed with the scenery or the family I was photographing. Emmy and Charlie have this incredible love and bond. I would ask them to smile or play, and they would immediately wrap their arms around each other. I can't even put into words how beautiful it was to see them together.
Even though their love was so breathtaking, the most memorable part of my evening was when Emmy asked "Mommy, when can we get our clothes dirty?" She wanted so badly to run around play on the trails. Who can blame her?
Until next time. xo.
A slight stray from my lifestyle blogging, but when I have an amazing session I need to brag about it! The beautiful Lajcaj family made me nothing more than happy when I was photographing them. And when I got home to see what I had captured, I fell in love with every single image. These babies are gorgeous and ridiculously fun to be around.
About five minutes after we started, they were on their own little adventure. My job was to follow them around and capture the love they share for each other. That was the easy part! The hardest part was saying good-bye because I didn't want to stop.
Studies show those that have more birthdays, live longer. <Insert your chuckle here> This past weekend was birthday celebration extravaganza. So many birthdays in such a little amount of time, but there is one in particular that sticks out from the rest. My good, ole' pops celebrated another year and what better way to do it with a little bit of family and some dessert?
And as you can suspect, I broke out the camera to capture some of those raw moments and add to my blogging lifestyle adventure. Although once they all realized I was becoming the paparazzi, I was told to sit down, relax and join the Apple to Apple's game that was about to start.
Note: Don't mind the paper made 7 on top of his cake. We had to be creative, considering it slipped my mind to buy some candles.
Photography isn't just about booking sessions, it is about finding the love that a family has. It's about living day in and day out, noticing little things that have happened throughout the day. Little things that most people find unimportant, but I find worth remembering. I don't want to lose the reason I fell in love with photography.
I have this vision of documenting family traditions in real time. No poses. No smile for the camera. Just the simplicity of documenting the times that are truly important to you and your loved ones. Whether it is a yearly tradition with your family or a daily routine with your little ones. Every moment you love is worth remembering.
My little bit of heaven to remember....
